TADRA Directions

DIRECTIONS TO TADRA – LBJ National Grasslands

Directions from Dallas/East: I-35E north to I-35 in Denton (joins with I-35W) and continue north. Exit on Hwy. 380 west to Decatur @ 24 miles to FM 730 (exit just past Hwy. 51 - also airport sign at junction 730). Continue via ** below.

Directions from McKinney area: Take Hwy. 380 west through Denton and another 20/25 miles. Just after exit Hwy 51 will be the exit for 730. Continue via ** below. If you want to avoid all the traffic light stops in Denton, follow the signs for Truck Route 380 which will take you in a northwesterly loop above and around Denton depositing you at the outlet mall by I35W. Take the service drive or I35W south for 1 mile and exit onto Hwy 380 and continue west towards Decatur to Hwy. 730. Continue via ** below.

Directions from Metroplex: Take 114 west to Hwy. 287 towards Decatur (northwest). About 3 miles outside of Decatur (landmark is Diamond Shamrock Station on opposing side of hwy.), you may exit at Business Loop 287/81. Continue on this road (@ 4-5 mile) until you come to stop sign at historic Town Square. Turn right onto Trinity St. and continue north @ 3/4 mile. After leaving residential area, Trinity turns into Hwy. 730. Continue directions below at **.

If you miss the Business Loop, after going through commercial area, Exit Hwy. 380 and turn east (towards Denton). At the 2nd Crossover (@ ½ mile), turn left at Junction 730. Continue ** below

Directions from Ft. Worth: Take I-35W to US 287 (NW to Decatur) for around 20-25 miles. If daytime, take Junction Business Rte. 81/287 veering off to right (RR tracks veer to right parallel with road). Landmark near this area are Diamond Shamrock station on left. Continue on this route to stop sign at Town Square @ 4-5 miles. Turn right onto Trinity St. and continue north @ 3/4 mile. After leaving residential area, Trinity turns into Hwy. 730. Continue directions below at **.
If you miss the Business Loop, follow instructions above “Directions from Metroplex” that take 287 and exit for Hwy. 380.

Directions from Oklahoma: Shortest route - take I-35 south to Hwy. 51 (out of Gainesville). Continue south on 51 to FM 455. Go west (actually W by NW) for @ 7/8 miles on 455 to FM 730. Turn south on 730 @ 9 miles to County Rd. 2461, turn west (right). Follow ** below where you turn onto County Rd. 2461. Easiest route - take I-35 south to Hwy. 380 west to Decatur and follow “ Directions from Dallas” noted above.

Directions from Austin/San Antonio: Either take I-35W north through Ft. Worth and follow directions above for Ft. Worth or take backroads Hwy. 281 or 51. If on 281, cut over on I-20 to 51 and go through Weatherford. Follow Hwy. 51 into Decatur (be on lookout for circle in Weatherford and major jog 5/7 miles outside of Decatur). Once in Decatur, Tractor Supply/WalMart will be on left and you will go under the overpass for Hwy. 287. Once you go under 287, this will become Hale St. At first stop sign, turn left at Trinity St. Continue to Town Square, making 2 stops at the Square and continue on Trinity (north) out of town. Trinity becomes Hwy. 730. Continue via ** below.

** Go north on 730 over RR tracks @ 9 miles. Turn west (left) onto County Rd. 2461 (also signs for Cottonwood/Blackcreek Lakes & Cemetery). In 100 yds. there will be a "Y" in the road, veer to the left at the "Y" (towards Black Creek Lake) and continue almost 2 miles (watch for blind curves & hills) to FS 904. Turn right onto FS 904, go over 2 cattle guards and another road (FS 900) will intersect with 904. Turn right onto 900 (also sign directing to TADRA Trailhead). Continue @ 1 1/2 miles (past 900A) to TADRA Point and turn left into that area. That is the area where there is campsite parking with trailers. If it is full, you will directed to park close by just off the surrounding roads, but close to park for check in and rides. There will be signs directing you where to turn that advertise "Benefit Ride" as well.
