The Grasslands provides habitat to support fishing,
hunting, hiking, biking and naturalizing. There is enough variety to entertain any couple
with diverse interests. Because the LBJ Grasslands is located near an urban area, all the
amenities of "city life" are within a 45-60 minute drive in case the day or nightlife is
too relaxing here. |
| The city of Decatur is located 9 miles south and
offers shopping "on the square", known for its historic and architecturally beautiful
Courthouse, and casual dining fare. There are weekend activities scheduled throughout
the summer including rodeos, city "fair", antique car shows, midnight shopping, etc.

Fort Worth and the metroplex have more variety and
upscale restaurants, world-class museums and theatre houses, the famous Stockyards,
various events at the coliseum including the Fat Stock Show and other competitive horse
events, and, of course, Billy Bob's. The Texas Motor Speedway, which features NASCAR
and Indy racing, is located north of Ft. Worth and is a 40-minute drive away.
Depending upon where you are visiting, the drive to Ft. Worth will be 50-60 minutes;
Dallas is within 1 ½ hr. drive.
There are golf courses nearby in Decatur and Bridgeport as well as recreational lake
activities in Bridgeport and Lake Ray Roberts. Nearby cities of Gainesville and Denton
offer outlet malls and antique shopping.
There are several other horse-riding areas (50-60 minute drive) for guests staying
longer than a weekend and desiring a variety of locales in which to ride. Mineral
Wells has a multi-use trail system along a former railroad route. Lake Ray Roberts
has numerous trails on Corps of Engineer property and has recently opened up a "green belt"
area expanding it even more. There is also Corps property around Lake Grapevine for
day-rides.
